But what is sudoku and how did it come about?

Sudoku is a numerical game that is composed of 9 rows, 9 columns and 9 boxes with 9 places each. Unlike other number games, one does not need to have strong mathematical skills to solve the puzzle. There is no addition or subtraction involved. You just need to figure out the proper placements of each number.

The objective of the game is to place numbers in each square. The catch however is that the number 1-9 should only appear once in the column, the row and in each of the square per box. The game was supposedly created by an American constructor named Howard Garnes in the 1970s but it was in Japan where it became a sensation in the 1980s. The word sudoku supposedly means placement puzzles.

Sudoku, as most players will attest, can be really hard, not to mention, addicting since you do not really know where to place a number. What is even more maddening is the fact that there is only one answer to each puzzle and one needs to come up with a correct number for each square in order to arrive with the final answer. The number of clues that are given to you will depend upon the difficulty level that you are playing at. For instance, if you are playing for the easy level or the beginner’s level, you will have more clues as compared to those who are already playing the expert’s games.

Most online versions of the game have checking devices to help players find out if their answers have been the correct one. This is especially helpful because as mentioned before, one incorrect answer or one number incorrectly placed, and you will not be able to properly solve the puzzle.
